TRIG achieves Final Investment Decision on 100MW Spennymoor battery project

18 February 2026

TRIG has achieved Final Investment Decision (FID) on its 100MW, two-hour Spennymoor battery storage project in the North of England, giving the project the green light to move forward into construction. The decision marks a significant milestone in the delivery of TRIG’s proprietary development pipeline.

When work on Spennymoor began, the project had a grid connection date of 2031. Through targeted late-stage development activity led by TRIG’s managers, InfraRed and RES, the connection date has been accelerated to 2027. This earlier timetable enabled the project to reach FID and demonstrates how active management can unlock value, reducing delivery timelines and execution risk.

Projects such as Spennymoor highlight TRIG’s ability to develop and construct assets organically using its own resources. By progressing battery storage projects from development through to construction, TRIG enhances portfolio returns while expanding exposure to flexible capacity that supports a more resilient and reliable electricity system.
